Anneke Zwager

Anneke Zwager lives in the countryside in the eastern part of the Netherlands in an agricultural region. Here are the wide views and the silence that strike her so much.

From her living room she has a view over the scenic landscape with the wide fields, the copices and the solitary trees. The view is different every day. Today light , tomorrow cloudy, and then another season. "This view is never boring", she says herself. " The silence is conditional in this. Many natural phenomena cannot be seen without silence. And without the silence, even the silence within yourself you cannot  see it."It is the peace and stillness that touch her. And that is the subject of her paintings.

She prefers to paint en plein air, to go outside, immerse yourself in the landscape and  put it on the canvas. And wherever  or whatever  she paints always ctreeps in the peace and the stillness. A painting is often worked on later in the studio. What then emerges is the extraploration of the charactaristics of that same landscape.
